Gameday Preview: Panthers Look for Consistency on the Road

Currently 4-4 in Skyway play, the Panthers have split their four road games thus far in the conference.

For the Panthers to get closer to the top, they must become road warriors this week. McHenry and Prairie State are a pair of matchups that could decide their postseason seeding.

The Panthers will look to duplicate their performance from the first season matchup on January 12th over McHenry. Five reached double figures as it was their depth that rose to the occasion.

Manny Rodriguez had a team-high 18 points and made all eight free throws in a game where he came up huge for the Panthers.

His quick release and ability to connect from the outside have allowed others to have space in the open court and half-court sets.

Xavier Spencer has been a nice addition for the squad and he has joined Rodriguez to form a productive backcourt tandem. Spencer has a smooth jumper and had 12 points off the bench in their first victory over McHenry.

Having two guards on the court together that feed off each other has allowed the offense to find a rhythm against better competition.

The 3-point shooting ability is a strength of the Panthers that they will attempt to use down the stretch run. They are currently No. 12 in shooting percentage from behind the arc at 37.2%.

That leads all Skyway teams, which will play a vital role against the better defenses. Spencer, Rodriguez, and Matas Deksnys are all capable shooters that can terrorize the opposition.

The Scots allow over 80 points a game and have been getting into consistent shootouts over the last month. That could help lead to a victory for the Panthers, which would be a favorable break heading into their road showdown against Prairie State on Thursday night.
