The Morton College Athletic Association recognized the four recipients of its Henry and Marie Vais Memorial Scholarship at the group's 40th annual Slivers Open golf outing July 25th at Carriage Greens Golf Course in Darien.
Each recipient received a $4,000 scholarship to help meet expenses at a four-year school. Requirements for the scholarship include participating in intercollegiate athletics for two years at Morton College. Academics and character also play an important role as well.
The MCAA, now recognized as a 501©(3) charity, was founded in the late 1970s by Henry Vais as a way to support athletics at Morton College. The annual golf outing, held on the last Friday in July, is the group's main fund-raiser.
This year's Henry and Marie Vais Scholarship honorees are:
Eric Costa – basketball and cross country, DePaul University
Zoe Klaus – volleyball, Trinity Christian College
Nathanael Lewis – men's basketball, Southern Wesleyan University
Alen Marin – men's soccer, UIC
"Each of these four recipients represent the best and brightest of Morton College," said Bob Vais, MCAA President and son of the late Henry and Marie Vais. "We are so proud to play a part in assisting these fine individuals further their educations."
