Morton College Offers Wealth of Opportunities
Community colleges typically offer three main educational strategies. Some students prefer to satisfy general education requirements before advancing to a four-year university, while others earn an Associate’s Degree and then begin their careers. Lifelong learners enjoy adding to their educational arsenal with a variety of interesting classes.
7,100 students come from all walks of life to attend Morton College, with the goal of bettering their lives and their futures. “We’re the second oldest community college in Illinois, founded in 1924,” said Blanca Jara, Director of Public Relations and Community Outreach. “We service the 527 district, which includes Berwyn, Cicero, Forest View, Lyons, McCook, and other near-western suburbs. I like to tell people we’re the smallest community college with the biggest heart!”
Morton College invests heavily in their students, staff, facilities, and community, offering a wealth of opportunities for all who enter their hallowed halls. “Whether that means adding classrooms in a new campus addition, strengthening relationships with area employers and universities, or introducing technology to streamline student communication with professors, we’re committed to continually improving what we do,” said Dr. Stan Fields, Morton College President. “We’re bettering ourselves so our students can continue to do the same.”
A new contract with Follett Higher Education Group to manage the college’s bookstore will provide hundreds of thousands of dollars for student scholarships. “Our partnership will also offer a reliable source of funds for student clubs and activities, emergency funds for students dealing with an unexpected financial crisis, and additional improvements to the bookstore,” added Dr. Fields. “We also provide ESL courses, concurrent enrollment programs with Morton East and West High Schools, and a free full-day preschool program on our campus for students and their families. All this is done on a totally wireless campus, named the 4th safest in the nation in 2015. At $96/credit hour, Morton College provides the best education at the lowest cost of any college in northern Illinois.”
