Transfer from State Fair Community College where EJ averaged 4.8 points per game and shot 77 percent from the free-throw line. Helped Whitney Young reach Class 4A sectional final in 2020 before IHSA canceled tournament due to pandemic. Played on Whitney Young’s Class 4A state runner-up in 2018. As a freshman, El played all 50 minutes of a six-overtime game at the Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

His dad, Dave, played for Billy Tubbs at Oklahoma with future NBAers Mookie Blaylock, Harvey Grant and current Bulls TV voice Stacey King. Dave scored 22 points and made seven three-pointers in NCAA Division I championship game against a Kansas team led by Danny Manning.
