Prolific scorer out Beloit Memorial in Wisconsin where Rico scored a career-best 61 points in a loss to Madison La Follette. Named All-Big Eight Conference First Team. Put up 48 points twice as a senior. Averaged 24.9 points per game and shot 54 percent from the field. Also grabbed 8.4 rebounds per game. Named team MVP.

High school produced Bill Hanzlik, who played 10 years in the NBA and Tony Carr (drafted by Milwaukee Bucks).
