The Panthers are 2-0 on the season and have remained No. 2 in the latest NJCAA
Ranking that was released on Monday afternoon.
They started off their season last week with a road victory at Black Hawk (72-65), and then a home win over Wilbur Wright College (110-21).
In the victory at home, six Panthers reached double-digits in scoring, including 32 points from Claire Hyde. The sharpshooter connected on nine shots from beyond the arc, which allowed her to earn 21 points in the first half.
The season-opener was a back-and-forth matchup that saw the Panthers trailing late in regulation.
They were trailing by two with 3:29 left (63-61), and the Panthers called a timeout to regroup after Black Hawk buried a three. The Panthers then went on a 14-2 run in the closing three minutes and 29 seconds, to pull off the victory in impressive fashion.
"We had to come together and play as a team. We were not playing fluidly or together, so coming together and believing in each other and trusting each other was huge in the big moments," said star forward Frannie Metz.
The Panthers have now been ranked in the top two in consecutive weeks for the first time in school history. It was last season that the Panthers ranked in the Top 10 down the stretch of the season en route to their magical performances in Port Huron.
The Path to Port Huron can often be bumpy for most programs, but the Panthers have welcomed all challengers and are ready for their upcoming slate. They have seven of their next eight games upcoming against teams that were at Nationals last season or that are currently ranked.
This weekend the Panthers head to the desert to take on Central Arizona and Mesa (Az.). Mesa possesses a bevy of playmakers as their current rank of No. 8 will certainly test the second-ranked Panthers.
