Women's basketball seeks perfect ending to season in Skyway

The Morton College women's basketball team will have to wait a day for its opportunity to run the table in the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference for the first time in program history as the regular-season finale against Elgin got moved back a day due to a weather forecast calling for ice and snow.

The Panthers will host Elgin at 4 p.m. Friday, February 18th in the Henry J. Vais Gymnasium.

Morton College did rack up another pair of program firsts in its 106-48 road win over Kankakee. It was the first time that the Panthers hit the century mark in consecutive games and the first time for Morton College posted back-to-back wins over Kankakee.

The No. 11 Panthers won their 19th straight game and improved to 23-2 overall.

In addition, the Panthers have occupied the NJCAA's top 20 for a Morton College-record 23 consecutive weeks. They're 40-4 in Nichols' two seasons at 38th Street and Central Avenue. Morton College also is 21-0 at home and 28-0 against Illinois Region 4 opponents.

The last time
The Panthers can be the first basketball team, men or women, at Morton College to run the table in the Skyway since the Frank Lollino Jr. men's squads posted back-to-back 14-0 league seasons in 2010 and 2011. Morton College takes an 11-0 record in Skyway play into its regular-season finale against Elgin.

The next 3 is for 300

It's déjà vu all over again
Again, it was Leia James' basket pushing the Panthers past the 100-point mark for the second straight time. The freshman scored Morton College's 100th point in wins over Kankakee and Lake County.

Panther flashback
Morton College's 23 wins matches the victory totals by the 1981 and 2013 Panther men's basketball team. The single-season record for wins by any Morton College basketball team is 26, done by the 2010 men's squad.
