The Morton College women's soccer program has taken to steps toward respectability in the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference as the Panthers came into the last day of league play with a chance at a share of the title.
However, the Panthers faced a daunting task in Moraine Valley, which used its quickness to defeat Morton College 5-0 October 20
th at the Carbajal Soccer Complex in Cicero. The Cyclones, who outscored their Skyway foes by a 20-1 margin to end up 5-0, jumped to a 4-0 intermission advantage with goals at the 21
st, 24
th, 29
th and 43
rd minutes.
Moraine Valley won both the men's and women's soccer titles in the Skyway.
"Moraine scored those two quick goals and our heads went down," Morton College women's soccer coach
Juan Franco said.
Morton College is 6-6 overall and 3-2 in the Skyway. Based on the results of Oakton's final Skyway game, the Panthers either could finished tied for second or be in third alone.
"There's a big difference between this year and last," Franco noted. "I'm pleased that we have a chance to finish second in the conference. We're trying to do our best and we just have to keep working hard."
