The Morton College women's soccer team put the nine days off between games to good use, coming out refreshed and rejuvenated to start the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference campaign with a 3-0 road win at Lake County September 9 in Grayslake.
The Panthers (2-1, 1-0 in the Skyway) seized the momentum with a late first-half goal by
Alexia Teran, with the assist going to
Josselyn Vasquez.
Jacky Razo (assist to
Leticia Pineda) and
Yatsiri Aguilar (direct kick) added second-half goals as the Panthers avenged last year's 7-0 loss to the Lancers.
"The ladies did a great job," Morton College women's soccer coach
Juan Franco said. "We were able to apply a lot of pressure."
Franco was very pleased with the play of defenders
Vanessa Sanez,
Maria Garcia and
Gabrielle Cahue, and midfielder Vasquez.
"During the long layoff, we kept working on finishing plays," Franco said. "We also tried to mix things up with some scrimmages, too."
The Panthers, one win away from matching last year's total, hit the road to face South Suburban at 4 p.m. Friday, September 11
th in South Holland. Morton College returns home for back-to-back Thursday afternoon Skyway encounters against Elgin September 17
th and nationally-ranked Waubonsee September 24
th.
