Women's Soccer defeats South Suburban in a Thriller!

The Morton College women's soccer team was excited for a rematch with South Suburban because the Panthers would have Ashley Castanon in goal.

Alexis Teran scored in the 72nd minute and Castanon made several big saves to help No. 4 seed Morton College defeat No. 5 South Suburban 1-0 October 31st in a Region IV quarterfinal contest at the Carbajal Soccer Complex in Cicero. The win, coming on a cold and rainy afternoon, ended a three-game losing streak for the Panthers.

It was Teran's seventh goal of the season and third against South Suburban, which beat the Panthers 3-2 during the regular campaign.

"All the players were excited when we found out we were playing South Suburban," Morton College women's soccer coach Juan Franco said. "Ashley Castanon made some big saves."

Morton College (7-6) moves to face top-seeded Moraine Valley at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 3rd, in the Region IV semifinals in Palos Hills. Moraine defeated the Panthers 5-0.

"It's a tall order for us because Moraine is an excellent team," Franco said. "We're going to work on fixing the things from the last time and see what happens."
