Morton College baseball coach Chris Wido announced commitments from the following players for the 2023 season.
An introduction to the newest members of the Panther family:
Caleb Arndt – LHP (Plainfield South High School)
Wido on Arndt: "Caleb is a crafty left-handed pitcher. He should continue to fill out. He's a hard worker."
Carson Beal – 1B (Normal University High)
Wido on Beal: "Carson is ranked the No. 234th best high school player in Illinois. He brings a big bat and I see him being a middle-of-the-order type hitter. Comes from a successful, winning type of culture we're looking for."
Noah Chase – SS/3B (Illinois Valley Central High School)
Wido on Chase: "Noah was an all-conference player as a junior in high school. He's someone who has a lot of pop in his bat. He is someone we will be counting on to contribute right away."
Carter Hall – C (Champaign Central High School)
Wido on Hall: "He has a very strong arm and can handle the bat. He'll be a guy we expect to contribute right away and elevate our talent behind the dish."
Anthony Huerta – RHP (Von Steuben High School)
Wido on Huerta: "His fastball is in the mid-80s. He's a max-effort thrower. Will throw harder as he fills out his frame. He's a guy we look for lock-down innings on the mound either as a starter or late in game as a closer."
Nick Humbracht – RHP (Illinois Valley Central High School)
Wido on Humbracht: "He's been one of IVC's main pitchers. A hard thrower with a lot of late movement. Another guy with a strong work ethic who we look to set the tone for our program moving forward."
Ezekiel Lopez – 3B/RHP (Morton High School/Berwyn) and Joseph Guzman – C (Morton High School/Cicero)
Wido on Lopez and Guzman: "We're very happy to keep the local talent coming to Morton College. Lopez is very versatile and can contribute in a number of different areas for us. Comes from Top Tier. Guzman is a hard worker who will provide us with depth behind the dish."
Jacob Lupton – RHP (Ontario Nationals)
Wido on Lupton: "Jacob is a big-framed pitcher that features a high-octane fastball. As he continues to develop his off-speed pitches, he has the potential to go very far in this game. Jacob is someone we hope can anchor our rotation for the next couple of years."
Caden Mainland – OF (Macomb High School)
Wido on Mainland: "He had the highest exit velocity at a Showcase event we attended. Caden's someone we project to have a lot of power and could be a big bat for us."
Hunter McCaw – RHP (Peoria Heights High School)
Wido on McCaw: "He's a young man we identified early on in the recruiting process. A real hard worker – the type of person we want to move our culture forward. He's got some good velocity and is someone who hope can be a front-line starter for us."
J.D. Swarbrick – UT (Barrington High School)
Wido on Swarbrick: "He's extremely versatile – can just about every position on the diamond. Has a very advanced approach at the plate. Comes from a great travel program in Evolution Baseball Academy, which has provided us with current/former Panthers
Rayth Petersen,
Cy Kerber,
Logan Romasanta,
Brian Donlea, Neal Tampa, Quinton Schwartz, Kaden Mannis and
Adrian Nery."
Michael Wanhala – OF (Huntley High School)
Wido on Wanhala: "Michael can play all three outfield positions. He has a lot of tools and can do a couple of different things. He comes from winning programs in both Huntley High School and the Pro Player Canes organization."
Morton College opens the 2022 season with a pair of double headers against Spoon River the weekend of February 19 and 20 in Albertville, Alabama.
