Morton College took down a pair of top 10 teams in the same season for the first since 2014 after pinning a 74-58 home defeat on No. 10 South Suburban December 6th.
The Panthers, who also defeated then 8th-ranked Milwaukee Area Tech 88-80 November 22nd, beat South Suburban for just the fourth time in 20 years. Back in 2014, the Panthers defeated No. 2 Kishwaukee and No. 5 South Suburban.
The win over South Suburban followed the same pattern the Panthers (6-4) used to beat Milwaukee Area Tech – jump to a big lead early, briefly give up the lead and then pull away down the stretch.
Morton College scored the game's first eight points and led 18-5 before settling for a 33-27 halftime advantage. After South Suburban tied the contest at 44, the Panthers responded with a 12-0 run and never were headed again in winning for the fifth time in their last six contests.
Zion Young produced his third career double-double, producing 15 points and 10 rebounds in a season-high 38 minutes.
Kevin Cathey Jr. turned in another stat stuffer performance with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists while committing just one turnover in 38 minutes.
