It's been a history-making history start for the women's soccer and volleyball teams at Morton College.
Volleyball is off to its best start at 5-0, winning all four matches for the first time at the Opening Weekend Tournament. The Panthers also took down Moraine Valley for the first time since 2001.
Soccer shocked preseason No. 7 Kansas City Kansas 1-0 August 23rd behind a 19-save performance by goalie
Zoe Hocke.
Ruby Hogan slipped in the game-winning goal at the 15th minute as Hocke did the rest by denying Kansas City Kansas, which qualified for the NJCAA Division I nationals a year ago, time and time again for the program's first win over a ranked opponent since 2021.
"Just unbelievable - what a shot blocker," Morton College women's soccer coach
Dwayne Cruz said. "If not for her, we wouldn't have won. Player of the match, without a doubt. She was ridiculous. What a team effort, too. We were tired, but we pushed ourselves to the limit."
The Panthers have followed with a pair of one-goal losses to Grand Rapids (2-1) and Waubonsee (1-0).
Volleyball convincingly ended a 31-match losing streak against Moraine Valley in a 3-1 (22-25, 25-6, 25-12, 25-16) before a boisterous home crowd August 27th.
It's official! First win in women's volleyball over Moraine Valley in 24 years.
The Panthers missed seven serves and hit a measly .122 in game one before settling down and taking control. Morton College's .565 game two hitting percentage and .667 game three showing were a big reason behind the Panthers' dominant performances.
