Peek behind 12-0 start
Need another reason why Morton College's volleyball team is 12-0?
It's the hitters. In Morton College's 3-1 win at Malcolm X last week, the Panthers had three players with 10 or more kills in
Nina Jasiecka (14),
Diana Stetsko (11) and
Sophia Swiderski (10).
Having a match with three players putting up 10 or more kills also took place against Milwaukee Area Tech with Jasiecka (20),
Neda Stojanovic (12) and Swiderski (10).Â
This is something the Panthers didn't accomplish at all last season.
Play it again, Sam
The men's soccer team at Morton College finally got untracked offensively in the Panthers' 4-1 win over South Suburban Saturday. All the scoring took place in the second half with
Sam Akamba leading the way with two goals.
Henrique Soares and
Omar Garcia also found the back of the net for Morton College, which won for the second straight Saturday.
Akamba has three goals in Morton College's last two matches.
Cross country comments
Morton College's Giulia Ricciotti and Bianca Rodriguez made their debuts at Aurora University's Spartan Classic. The 6-kilometer Northwestern Medicine Course is a hilly one as Ricciotti crossed the finish line 37th in 33:14.50 and Rodriguez, 42nd in 36:01.60.
"We need to start somewhere," Morton College women's cross country coach Gus Coronado said. "This was a challenging course for their first race. They'll learn from this as they will have to come back here and run at the Region 4 in seven weeks. Looking forward to our next race. It's also a 6-K, but flat."
The Panthers are at Wheaton College's Gil Dodds Invitational Saturday. The course is St. James Farms Forest Preserve in Warrenville.
