Men's cross country lands four on all-Skyway team

Morton College matched host Moraine Valley as both had four runners receive all-conference honors at the Skyway men's cross-country championship race October 21st in Palos Hills.

The Panthers ran well as a pack, going 5-6-7-9 in the 8-kilometer race held on the Moraine Valley campus. All-Skyway accolades went to Morton College's Brian Kiplagat (30:15.5 – 5th), Fernando Quintana (30:27.9 – 6th), Sebastian Mantilla (31:37.4 – 7th), Adrian Alcantar (32:46.0 – 9th).

Morton College placed second at the three-team meet with Moraine Valley riding a 1-2 finish to end up with 35 points to the Panthers' 42. Waubonsee was third with 43.

"I thought we ran a solid race," Morton College coach Miriam Andalbo said. "We finished strong and are looking forward to next week's Region IV race."

Mauricio Lara held off two other runners to place 15th in 35:29.7.

On the women's side, Aracely Duran was Morton College's only representative. She placed 12th, completing the 5-kilometer course in 33:41.2.

Volleyball
Morton College is in position to do something the Panthers have accomplished once before in program history – post back-to-back seasons of 20 wins or more. The Panthers last reached this milestone with consecutive 20-win seasons in 2014 and '15 campaigns.

The Panthers, winners of 20 matches a year, stand at 19 victories in 2023 after taking down Kankakee 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-21) October 21st to finish up a home triangular. It was Morton College's second victory of the year over Kankakee. The two schools square up again Thursday, October 26th in Kankakee before the Panthers (19-15) finish off the regular season by hosting Olive-Harvey Friday, October 27th.

Team notes
Lilly Margiljaj racked up a team-best 12 kills in win over Kankakee. It was her 11th match of the season with 10 or more kills and fifth time the freshman had a hitting percentage of .300 or better.
Kylah Cales' 10 kills vs. Kankakee was her third match this season with 10 or more kills.
Zoe Klaus' three aces vs. Kankakee marked the ninth time this season with three or more aces in a match. She's also 36th nationally with 95 total blocks.
Nathaly Taylor's .361 hitting percentage in Morton College's 3-0 (25-10, 25-17, 25-16) win at Triton October 19th was the sixth time the sophomore reached or exceeded that number this season.
Also nationally ranked are Neveah Lewis (5th in total blocks – 130) and Trenyce Bonner (23rd in kills – 358). Bonner has 860 career kills.

Men's soccer
The Panthers earned the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Region IV playoffs where they'll host No. 6 Rock Valley at noon Saturday, October 28th. It's a rematch of last year's Region IV semifinals where the Panthers escaped with a 3-2 win.

Morton College ended the regular season with a 2-1 win over South Suburban October 19th at home. It gave the Panthers their 15th consecutive season with double-digit wins.
