Another banner week for Morton College women's athletics!
The best start in volleyball program history got even better as the Panthers left the South Suburban Tournament at 10-0, while soccer claimed the program's 100th win with a 7-2 decision at Kankakee.
Volleyball
The biggest fish Morton College landed at South Suburban was an impressive 3-2 win (19-25, 20-25, 25-16, 25-21, 15-7) over 21st-ranked Milwaukee Area Tech September 6th. The Panthers overcame a 2-0 deficit in beating a ranked team for the first time since 2022. They also pinned the first loss of the season on the Stormers, who entered the match at 11-0.
Nina Jasiecka was one of three Panthers in double figures for kills with 20.
Neda Stojanovic added 12 and
Sophia Swiderski had 10 to go along with 14 digs and 3 aces. Jasiecka just missed a double double with 9 digs.
Marija Radovic put up 43 assists, 13 digs and 4 aces. Jasiecka,
Beatriz Coca and Stojanovic all had 5 blocks.
Abby Monahan chipped in with 12 digs.
Ava Miller and
Diana Stetsko both had 4 kills.
Jasiecka's 13 kills helped the Panthers take down Spoon River 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-21) for the second time this season. Stetsko and Swiderski both had 7 kills, while Coca added 5 kills and 3 blocks.
Ryanne Janicek and Coca chipped in with 4 kills apiece.Â
The Panthers then dug deep in handing a second team their first loss of the season in a 3-1 (24-26, 25-18, 25-16, 25-20) win over 7-0 Lake County September 7th. Morton College's 99 digs were the most in a single match since registering 111 digs in a 5-set win over Kankakee October 5, 2024.
Five Panthers were in double figures for digs with
Abby Monahan and Swiderski leading the way with 18 apiece. Radovic (16), Stetsko (12) and
Valencia Carrera (11) also were double diggers.
Jasiecka's career-high 22 kills paved the way, while Swiderski added 13 kills and Coca posted six blocks. Radovic also had 38 assists and three aces.
The Panthers ended their run 4-0 at South Suburban with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-12) win over the host Bulldogs behind Swiderski's 10 kills and 16 digs. Miller (9 kills), Stojanovic (6 kills), Coca (6 kills) and
Journee Fulton (5 kills) also contributed.
All 12 Panthers came up with at least 1 kill.
Women's soccer
Sjenna Van De Weerd's second consecutive game with a hat trick was the highlight of the 100th win for the Morton College women's soccer program in a 7-2 triumph at Kankakee September 6th. The sophomore forward has scored nine goals in Morton College's last two matches and currently ranks fifth nationally in goals scored at the NJCAA Division II level.
Jasminder Ruby Kaur Sangha also notched her first collegiate hat trick.
Ruby Hogan,
Frederikke Dam Jergensen,
Bruna Amar and
Lea Jager also each had an assist. The Panthers (3-3-0) first fielded a women's soccer team in 2010 and are 100-102-17 overall.
Men's soccer
Luis Medina's 2 goals carried Morton College to a 3-1 win at Kankakee September 6th.
Omar Garcia also scored for the 2-4-1 Panthers, who were coming off a 2-1 loss to Skyway Conference rival Prairie State two days earlier.
Henrique Soares,
Felipe Almeida and
Lorenz Garcia each notched an assist in the win over Kankakee.
